Mr Gareth Johnston
Following a hearing of the Professional Conduct Committee (the “PCC”) into a complaint made against Mr. Gareth Johnston, MPSI (Reg. No 8099), the Council of the Pharmaceutical Society of Ireland (the “Council”) considered the report of the PCC on 26 June 2025 and decided to suspend Mr Johnston’s registration for a period of 2 months and attach the following conditions to his registration:
- The Registrant will not act as supervising pharmacist of Johnston's Pharmacy Lanesboro, or any other pharmacy, for a period of 2 months to commence after the period of suspension has been completed, the said two month suspension commencing on the 16th day of December 2025 and a new Supervising Pharmacist to be appointed for this period.
- The Registrant will not act as superintendent pharmacist of the Pharmacies in the Johnston's Pharmacy Group, being Johnston's Pharmacy Lanesboro, Johnston's Pharmacy Teffia Park, and Johnston's Pharmacy Ballygar (the "Pharmacy Group"), or any other pharmacy, for a period of 2 months to commence after the period of suspension has been completed, and a new Superintendent Pharmacist to be appointed for this period.
- The Registrant shall engage an independent expert pharmacist, to be approved in advance by the Registrar of the PSI, to conduct one audit every six months over an eighteen month period of each pharmacy within the Pharmacy Group, and the report of the audits to be provided to the Registrar within two months of the date of each audit, such audits to address, inter alia, pharmacist supervision in the Pharmacy Group, maintenance of the pharmacy Duty Registers in line with the PSI Guidance and the roles and responsibilities of the Superintendent Pharmacist.
The Council considered the issue of publication of the PCC’s report pursuant to section 57 of the Act and decided that it was in the public interest to publish the report of the PCC redacted so as not to disclose the identity of any other parties relevant to the complaint.
The Council’s decision was subsequently confirmed by the High Court on. Under section 57(1)(c) and (e) of the Act, the Council is obliged to give public notice of the registrant’s suspension and of any conditions attached to his registration.
