Following a hearing of the Professional Conduct Committee (PCC) into a complaint made against Patrick Garahy, MPSI (Reg. No 4395), the Council of the Pharmaceutical Society of Ireland (the “Council”) considered the report of the PCC on 25 January 2024 and decided to suspend Mr Garahy’s registration for a period of twelve months pursuant to section 48(1)(b)(iii) of the Pharmacy Act 2007 (the “Act”) and to impose conditions pursuant to section 48(1)(b)(ii) of the Act, to Mr Garahy’s registration. The Council also decided to publish the report of the PCC in accordance with the provisions of section 57(2) of the Act. The Council’s decision was subsequently confirmed by the High Court on 22 April 2024.
Under sections 57(1)(c) and 57(1)(e) of the Act respectively, the Council is obliged to give public notice of the sanctions of suspension and the attachment of conditions to a registration.
The conditions, which are outlined below do not take effect until the period of suspension has concluded.
Conditions attached to the registration of Mr Patrick Garahy, (Reg No 4395)
- He will not engage in practice as a registered pharmacist otherwise than under the direct supervision of another registered pharmacist. 2.
- He will notify any prospective employer at the time of application for employment as a registered pharmacist of the existence of these conditions.
- He will notify the Registrar/Council of any return to practice.
