Following a hearing of the Health Committee into a complaint made against a pharmacist which took place on 18 & 19 September 2023, the Council of the Pharmaceutical Society of Ireland (the “Council”) considered the report of the Health Committee on 25 January 2024 and decided to censure the pharmacist pursuant to section 48(1)(b)(i) of the Pharmacy Act 2007 (the “Act”) and to impose conditions pursuant to section 48(1)(b)(ii) of the Act, to the pharmacist’s registration.
The Council also decided under section 57(2) of the Act that it was in the public interest to publish the report of the Health Committee but redacted so as to anonymise the registrant. The Council’s decision was subsequently confirmed by the High Court on 22 April 2024.
Under section 57(1) of the Pharmacy Act 2007, the Council is obliged to give public notice of the sanction however the Council decided the identity of the registrant shall be anonymised in any publication.
