Following a hearing of the Health Committee into a complaint made against a pharmacist which took place on 19 January 2024, the Council of the Pharmaceutical Society of Ireland (the “Council”) considered the report of the Health Committee on 7 March 2024 and decided to cancel the registration of the registrant pursuant to section 48(1)(b)(iv) of the Pharmacy Act 2007 (“the Act”).
The Council considered the issue of publication of the Committee Report and or/transcript pursuant to section 57(2) of the Act and decided that it was not in the public interest to publish the report of the Health Committee or the transcript of the Inquiry. The Council’s decision was confirmed by the High Court on 17 June 2024.
Under section 57(1)(a) of the Act, the Council is obliged to give public notice of the sanction of cancellation however the Council decided to anonymise the notice given the circumstances of the complaint.
