Launch of the PSI Pharmacy Workforce Survey 2025
We are pleased to launch our fourth annual workforce survey, and we are asking all pharmacists to take part and contribute to this important initiative. The workforce survey will be open for the month of September.
The survey builds on the information we gathered in previous years so that we can monitor workforce trends for registered pharmacists in Ireland and compare findings where relevant. The survey is designed to support our ongoing efforts as part of the the Future of the Pharmacy Workforce project. One of the key objectives of this project is to enhance the data and insights available on the pharmacist workforce in Ireland. Findings will help inform and facilitate ongoing collaborative action amongst stakeholders to help ensure the sustainability of the workforce and its capacity to meet the evolving needs of both the pharmacy sector and wider healthcare system in Ireland.
2025 Workforce Survey
The workforce survey is issued by email directly to all PSI registered pharmacists. The survey is applicable to pharmacists at all career stages and practice areas including those who are retired or temporarily non-practising due to maternity leave, illness, career-break, etc. With healthcare continuing to evolve, it is increasingly important to see how and where pharmacists are applying their skills and expertise, and to understand the proportion of those registered who are working in direct patient care.
The PSI is grateful for the continued engagement of pharmacists and encourages all those registered to participate in this year’s workforce survey. The survey will close on Tuesday, 30 September 2025.
The insights that are gathered will be shared in the 2025 Workforce Survey Report, to be published in early 2026.

The PSI’s Work on the Future of Pharmacy Workforce
In both our current and previous Corporate Strategies and Service Plans, we have made a strategic commitment to examine the issues facing the professional workforce to ensure pharmacy can continue to meet the health and safety needs of the public and fulfil its role in the development of an integrated and expanding health service.
This annual survey is a key component of the PSI’s ongoing work to monitor changes in the pharmacy environment. Previous Workforce Reports and more information on this work area can be read here on our website.
Reminder – How do I keep my registration details up to date?
As part of this annual workforce survey we seek to enhance and improve the data that is available already through the PSI pharmacist registers. If you are registered already with the PSI and you change practice area or wish to make updates to your registration data at any time, you can make these updates through the registration portal.
